Graduate Forensic
Programs Produce Video
Faculty member L. Kathleen
Sekula, PhD, APRN-BC, Forensic Nursing
Program Coordinator, participated on the Task
Force established by the PA Health Department
in response to a mandate from the PA legislature
to establish minimum standards for the care of
all sexual assault victims in PA. An evidence
collection kit was then designed to meet the minimum
standards. These kits and instructions are available
to all nurses and physicians who collect evidence
in cases where sexual assault has occurred.
Joe Seidel, representing
the Duquesne University School of Nursing, worked
with the task force to create a DVD that is now
available statewide to assist in the training
of all nurses on the minimum standards. The DVDs
are available through the PA Department of Health
and the videostream is available online.
