Personal Information
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. I live with my husband, Jim, in Forest Hills. Besides being husband and wife, Jim and I write, present workshops, and teach classes together in the area of bioethics. It is great since we get to spend time together, and have a common academic interest.
We have one child, Tabitha. She is a chemist and works part-time for Bayer Corporation. Our son-in-law, Rich, is an electrical engineer and has recently gone into his own business. They live a short distance from us and so we get to see them and our granddaughters, Melanie Elizabeth and Allena Nicole, often. They are a delight and it is so much fun to watch them learn. Since I teach about concept formation and structure of knowledge and Jim is a philosopher, we are particularly interested in watching them as they learn concepts and what they select to learn and explore. It is great fun and allows us to creatively play.
I love to cook, read mysteries, go to live theater, and drink wine. Jim and I consider ourselves amateur wine experts. We belong to the Pittsburgh Wine Guild and also have a small group (four couples) who get together periodically at someone's house or a restaurant without a liquor license, (so we can bring our wine), to have dinner and a wine tasting. It is a fun pastime and very relaxing.
Jim has another daughter, Keri, who is a nurse. Therefore, Keri and I have plenty to discuss. Her husband, Gary, works in the computer science area. They both enjoy wine and we share recommendations back and forth. Occasionally, Jim and Gary will smoke their once a month cigar together and outside (house rules). Jim's other granddaughter's name is Aubrey. She can read, write, and speak Japanese- I am impressed. She is getting ready to go to college where she plans to pursue a career in the humanities. Unfortunately, they live in Virginia and we do not get to see them often enough. But we keep in close touch by phone and e-mail.
